While the Invisalign® clear aligners provided by Orthodontics, Inc. are designed to be very durable so that they can effectively realign your teeth and help you achieve your dream smile, they require proper care and treatment in order to remain in good shape. To help maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of your orthodontic aligner, our team can provide some helpful tips.
When you first remove your aligner from your mouth for cleaning or mealtimes, we encourage you to rinse the appliance underwater in order to remove any saliva that could lead to bacteria growth and harmful dental conditions such as tooth decay. At least once a day, you should deeply clean your appliance by placing it in a container of water and a method of cleaner such as cleaning crystals for Invisalign or denture cleaner. Allow it to soak for the amount of time recommended by the cleanser you choose.
Second, you should also deeply clean your smile before wearing your orthodontic aligner again. Every day, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth and then floss with a product that you find comfortable and easy to use. It’s important to keep your teeth clean during orthodontic treatment so that you aren’t wearing your aligner on a smile is full of plaque, or else you are wedging bacteria between the aligner and your teeth and increasing your risk of dental issues.
